NIO has submitted a request to trademark the name ‘NIO Phone’ in China. The Chinese electric vehicle maker is hoping to secure exclusive rights to the moniker, allowing it to use the name for mobile phones, smart phones and related items.
William Li, Chairman and CEO of NIO, has indicated that their smartphone would be released in 2023.
NIO's much-anticipated smartphone is going to be called 'NIO Phone.' The firm has applied for the trademark for the said device and it is presently being assessed.
During 2022 CEO William Li stated that the company was making progress with their NIO phone business. Li remarked that the aim was to emulate Apple and launch a new phone annually; however, he acknowledged the biggest obstacle was ensuring it was user-friendly.
“The NIO mobile phone business is progressing. We are definitely incomparable with the company that sells 100 million mobile phones [Apple] now. It is not difficult to create mobile phones now, but it is still challenging to create a mobile phone that is easy to use,” William Li said.
“What NIO has to do is very simple, is to build a good mobile phone for its users, and develop a mobile phone every year, just like Apple,” NIO CEO added.
Currently, NIO cars have a plethora of technology inside; however, Apple users cannot enjoy all the car's functions as the mmW technology implemented by NIO is incompatible with Apple devices. William Li expressed that the forthcoming phone presents a design that emulates NIO vehicles, including various colours options to match their cars. Fans will be glad to know that this smartphone will be priced at around 7,000 yuan ($1,000).
When released, NIO's phone might be a better substitute for the remote, potentially containing features not seen in other cell phones.
In August 2022, NIO Mobile Technologies Co Ltd was established with a capital of $100 million. Its registration reveals that the firm will manufacture and market electronic goods, wearables, communication appliances, and mobile phones. It is fully owned by NIO.
