Polestar 3 Release Date Delayed: What This Means for EV Fans
Kitai LinkedIn Twitter YouTube
The production of the Polestar 3 has been delayed to the first quarter of 2024, largely because of difficulties concerning the software for the Volvo EX90-shared platform.
Software issues for electric cars company are nothing new, vehicles that were rendered unusable, recalls and unsatisfactory usage. Regrettably, Polestar and Volvo Cars have encountered similar difficulty with their forthcoming EV releases due to programming difficulties. Consequently, they needed to postpone the launch of their electric car.
Polestar reported on Thursday that its new all-electric platform, which it shares with Volvo Cars is almost complete, and that the release of the Polestar 3 has been delayed until the first quarter of 2024.

This delay brought on by software issues is a tragic setback for the Swedish automaker - Polestar known for its luxury and its unique ability to set away from the boring design, and interpretation of modern electric vehicles.
This was unfortunate timing, of course, since the Polestar $PSNY stock was gradually starting to recover above $4 prior to the release of the Q1 shareholders meeting, supporters of the brand and investors alike were extremely disappointed.
In the first quarter, Polestar delivered 12,076 cars, generating $546m in revenue, driven by Polestar 2 sales which are up 26% from a year ago and is on track to achieve strong commercial results in the second quarter.
Deliveries of the Polestar 3 are set to begin in the first quarter of 2024 from a plant in Chengdu, China. The 2024 edition intended for North American consumption will come from Volvo’s Ridgeville factory in South Carolina. This Long Range Dual Motor model is priced starting at $85,300 with the Pilot and Plus packs included, and an additional $6000 for the Performance one.
The Polestar 4 is still on schedule to arrive in China in the fourth quarter of 2023, then later in other markets during early 2024.
Polestar's debut in the SUV market is an electric crossover for which the starting price is $85,300. Unfortunately, its launch in America has been pushed back a few months.

Performance And Drive
Polestar revealed its highly profitable SUV market late 2022: the 2024 Polestar 3, unveiled today in Copenhagen. The reveal marks a significant milestone for Volvo's electric performance sub-brand, which began with the eye-catching plug-in hybrid coupe, the 1; followed by the 2, their answer to Tesla's Model 3. The flagship 3 packs quite a punch with a dual-motor setup producing an impressive 510 horsepower and 671 pound-feet of torque.
The Performance package delivers outstanding figures, but even the standard dual-motor 3 churns out 483 hp and 620 pound-feet. According to Polestar, this is enough power to launch the vehicle to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds - trimming a further 0.3 seconds off with the Performance pack. Maximum speed is 130 mph. The dual-motor setup provides all-wheel-drive while the torque vectoring of the rear engine offers enhanced drivability and manoeuvrability.
Design Philosophy
Polestar had already revealed the sleek design of the 3, and now we know its slippery, minimalist bodywork has a coefficient of drag of 0.29. Though it's slightly shorter than the Porsche Cayenne at 193 inches, its wheelbase is a greater length at 117.5 inches - a difference of 3.5 inches. Depending on spec, the Polestar 3 Crossover stands between 5696 and 5886 pounds and is capable of towing 3500 pounds - something that will take its toll on range.

The Interior And Technology
The cabin of the vehicle is pared-back but classy, with a 14.5-inch infotainment screen running Android Automotive, similar to the Polestar 2. There's also Google Assistant, Maps and Play Store apps built-in. For added safety features, it features radar sensors that can detect subtle movements; this assists in making sure kids or pets are not left unintentionally. Polestar also states the system is linked to climate control to prevent heat stroke or hypothermia. It even includes an eye-tracker to alert drivers who seem distracted or tired, then initiating an emergency stop if ignored for a prolonged period of time.
