Polestar 7 Set to Replace the 2 in Next-Generation Line-Up
Since its debut in 2020 as the second production car under Geely's ownership, the electric vehicle has achieved over 150,000 sales across 26 global markets. It was recently refreshed with additional drivetrain options and advanced technical capabilities.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath has also confirmed that the model will reach the end of its cycle by 2027. However, he added that there are no plans for a direct replacement, suggesting a complete transformation for this highly successful electric car in the last four years.
After its planned lifespan, the Polestar 2 electric crossover will not have a direct replacement. Instead, a completely new and distinct vehicle named the 7 will take its place.
The Polestar 4 is perhaps the closet example of what we can expect from the Polestar 7 design inside and out.
The brand will stick to its chronological model naming strategy for future releases, as confirmed by him. The upcoming supercar in 2026 will be called the Polestar 7.
Ingenlath is not currently ready to reveal any specific details about the potential successor to the 2. He stated, "We can discuss the car type and our plans when the time comes." However, he did mention that the new model would likely have a similar position and role as the 2 in Polestar's lineup.
He also emphasised the drawbacks of repeatedly launching similar generations of a car, which can limit creativity and hinder progress. As he put it, "Even if we create a very similar vehicle, by giving it a different number, we avoid being confined to just one concept."
The 7 will soon switch from its current CMA platform to a new EV-specific one within the Geely group, likely based on the SEA architecture that also underpins the Polestar 4.
This larger electric crossover boasts a range of up to 379 miles, quick charging at 200kW, and can go from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds. However, with advances in technology expected by the time the 7 is released, we can expect improvements across all areas.
