The Rivian R1T pickup truck is renowned for its outstanding off-road capabilities, achieved by the application of one motor per wheel. Making as much power as some hypercars, this electric vehicle offers a starting price of $73,000 for the dual-motor/260-mile (418-kilometer) battery pack configuration - which can go up to $98,550 when additional options are chosen. A customer recently revealed that it is possible to get even more out of the R1T than promised by the automaker, making the expense worthwhile.

On his return journey from a humanitarian trip, Mylo Fowler noticed a big rig that had veered off the highway near Moab, Utah. The area was experiencing strong gusts of wind combined with heavy snowfall, Fowler chose to offer help to the truck driver.

Despite the Rivian owner attaching a recovery kit, the first pull with the Class 8 truck, which weighs at least 33,000 lb (14,969 kg), did not have success. Unfortunately, the R1T was displaced and instantly had difficulty gaining traction.

The pickup truck driver adjusted his position to gain a more advantageous approach, and with gentle acceleration, the Rivian was able to get the semi-truck out of the ditch. Success! No further attempts were necessary.

After chatting with the semi-truck driver, Fowler gained knowledge that the big rig weighed an extraordinary 38,000 lb (17,237 kg). Comparatively, that's over three times more than the rated towing capacity of the Rivian R1T. He emphasises his expertise in pickup truck driving; having invested his job and passion in adventurous routes for 15 years.
