The Ferrari SP48 Unica was unveiled today, joining the most exclusive group of cars crafted by Maranello: those absolutely bespoke models created according to the wishes of a single individual. These cars are unique and reflect the personal preferences of their owners.
The SP48 Unica, crafted by the Ferrari Styling Centre under Flavio Manzoni's leadership, is a two-seater sports berlinetta built on the F8 Tributo platform. Its sleek lines and athletic posture make it stand out compared to its predecessor. Furthermore, its arrow-shaped front grille gives it an unmistakable look.
The extensive use of procedural-parametric modelling techniques and 3D prototyping provided the designers at Maranello with the tools to entirely alter the front grille and air intakes, producing 3D forms that appear to have been cut from a single solid piece, thus creating an effect of continuous flow and dynamic fluidity.

The SP48 Unica's design speaks volumes with its procedurally generated graphics interacting with the grilles. The transition from black – windows, roof and engine cover – to body colour is especially visible, enhancing the impact of the front visor effect made possible by reducing the size of the side windows and dispensing with the rear screen.
This gives an impression of a monolithic body that has been shaped from a single piece of metal. Furthermore, a plan view allows you to gain an understanding for the nuances incorporated into the design by showing off how air intakes blend into the carbon-fibre engine cover before extending out into a rear wing. Symmetry and intersecting lines interact harmoniously to make up this car's striking aesthetics.
The SP48 Unica has been engineered for maximum cooling capability and also provides a new aerodynamic balance. The most prominent changes to the F8 Tributo are the air intakes present in the front bumper and under the rear spoiler. These have been designed with a deep ridged grille, systematically positioned to encourage increased airflow. A further advantage of this setup is that an intercooler intake could be put near the side windows which allowed for smaller intakes along the sides. As well as this, a longer rear overhang reduces air suction from the roof, resulting in more downforce on the back of the car.
