Production of the new Volkswagen Group brand's lineup of electric pickups and SUVs will commence in 2026.
This week, Volkswagen revealed its plans to construct electric vehicles for its new Scout Motors brand in South Carolina. The facility will be the automaker's second vehicle production site in the U.S., solely dedicated to manufacturing Scout models.
VW's board of management has declared its intention to construct a Scout assembly plant in Blythewood, South Carolina, with an estimated expenditure of $2 billion. When finished, it is predicted to generate 4000 jobs and manufacture up to 200,000 Scouts yearly. A VW representative confirmed that the new facility will exclusively be used for the production of Scout EVs, not other VW brands' electric automobiles. The plant is due to launch in 2026.

VW announced a major commitment last May of $7.1 billion to launch the American-assembled ID.4 in 2022 and the ID. Buzz in 2024, followed by new electric SUVs from 2026. This is part of their bigger plan that also includes investments in EV production in Europe and China and discussions about establishing a battery plant in Canada. The Scout plant is an additional aspect of this plan.
In 2021, VW acquired Navistar and with it, control of the Scout brand. The original Scout had been created by International Harvester and in 2022, VW officially brought it back.
